WASHINGTON (AP) A $30,000-plus oak table that needed a major repair before it could be put back in its home has been sold.
The Oak Table Repair Center at the Smithsonian Institution says the new $300,000 replica, a model built by the same company that made the original, is a replica that has been used by many.
The center says the restoration project is part of its mission to create and preserve authentic woodworking and furniture in America.
It’s part of the Smithsonian’s Woodworking Collection and is part to the Smithsonian Center of Woodworking and Art.
The museum says the replica was built in a small shop in Texas in 1998 and has been on display at the center since then.
It has been restored by the center in collaboration with other institutions.
